The Norwegian "Prohibition of Certain Hazardous Substances in Consumer Products" ban was passed on December 15, 2007 and came into effect on January 1, 2008. This ban will be abbreviated as PoHS for your reference.
Although the legislation only applies to Norway, it may become the de facto RoHS standard for electrical and electronic products similar to those exported to Europe, because very few companies will produce a targeted product for a single market. Unless there is no plan to sell the products to Norway.
The coverage of this new standard is greater than that of RoHS. It covers almost all consumer products (with a few exceptions). It includes product categories in addition to electrical and electronic consumer goods, but also clothing, luggage, construction, toys, etc. This regulation does not apply to food, food packaging, chemical fertilizers, medical equipment and cigarettes, as well as transportation vehicles, fixtures on transportation vehicles, tires and similar transportation equipment accessories.
The new regulations recommend the restriction of 18 substances. In addition to the 2 (lead and cadmium) contained in the EU RoHS Directive, there are also provisions for the prohibition of 16 substances.
The 18 substances are listed as follows:
Hexabromocyclododecane (HBCDD)
Pentachlorphenol
Tetrabromobisphenol A (TBBPA)
Musk xylene
Carbochlorinated Paraffin (C14-C17 MCCP 14-17)
Musk ketone
Arsenic and its compounds (As)
Bis (hydrogenated tallow alkyl) dimethyl amine chloride (DTDMAC)
Lead and its compounds (Pb)
Distearyl dimethyl amine chloride (DODMAC/DSDMAC)
Cadmium and its compounds (Cd)
Di (hardened tallow) dimethyl amine chloride (DHTDMAC)
Tributyltin (TBT)
Bisphenol A, namely Bisphenol A (BPA)
Triphenyltin (TPT)
Perfluorooctanoate (PFOA)
Dihexyl phthalate (DEHP)
Triclosan, namely Triclosan
